Ventolin(Albuterol Sulfate) Inhaler is used to relax the smooth muscle in the lung and open airways to improve breathing. It is used in the treatment of asthma, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema. The inhaler allows the drug to reach deep into the lungs for maximum benefit.
Ventolin is a moderately selective beta2-receptor agonist widely used as a bronchodilator in the management and treatment of asthma or other chronic obstructive airway diseases. Ventolin has less cardiac stimulation and more prolonged bronchodilation than other inhalers that use different ingredients. Albuterol, the main ingredient was originally approved by the FDA in 1981.
Beta2-agonists are bronchodilator medicines that open airways by relaxing the muscles in and around the airways that tighten during an asthma attack. Beta2-antagonists are supplied in many ways:
Inhaled using a metered amount inhaler
Inhaled using a nebulizer
A powder-filled capsule that is inhaled by using a device called a dry powder inhaler
Swallowed as a liquid or tablet
Taken as shots
Inhaled beta2-agonists stop symptoms of asthma attacks and prevent asthma symptoms that are started by exercise. They are sometimes used in small quantities (no more than three to four times a day) to keep daily asthma symptoms under control.
Inhaled medicines are the first choice. They begin to work within 5 minutes and have fewer side effects. The medicine goes right to the lungs and is not easily absorbed into the rest of the body. A child as young as five years old can use the metered, measured inhaler.

Directions: Shake the canister well before using. Place the canister near your mouth and exhale. Depress the spray as you inhale deeply. Hold your breath for a few seconds to allow the drug to be absorbed. If more than one inhalation is prescribed, wait at least one full minute between inhalations. Rinse your mouth after using to help prevent dryness and relieve throat irritation. Take this medication exactly as prescribed. Excessive use may result in decreased effectiveness and increased side effects. Do not double the amount taken if an amount is missed.
